Sweet n’ Savoury Dips – Susie’s Best

October 30, 2017 By Jittery Cook 10 Comments

As of yesterday, I’d never heard of Carlene Thomas;  today, she’s one of my flavour heros — she and my good friend Susie Kessler, who introduced me to Carlene’s Whipped Feta Dip,  the inspiration for Dip #1 in this fabulous sweet n’ savoury dips duo.

Always one to maximize pleasure, Susie also serves this spectacular Honey Yogurt Dip with Granny Smith apples. Ages ago I purchased Yogurt Seasoning at Akhavan, never daring to use it because I had no idea how. Now the secret is revealed.

Carlene and Susie, wherever you are, we love your flavours!
Feta Dill Dip Ingredients, dill, parsley, feta, ricotta, olive oil and red pepper flakes

Sweet n’ Savoury Dips

Dip #1: Feta Dill Dip

  • 1 c crumbled feta
  • 3/4 c full fat ricotta
  • 1/4 c olive oil
  • 2 T dill, roughly chopped
  • 2 T parsley, roughly chopped
  • 1/4 t red pepper flakes

Blend ingredients in a food processor. Serve in a shallow bowl with Feta Dill Dip Garnish, baked pita chips, cucumber, carrot, celery and bell pepper crudité. Serves 8. If you have left overs, schmear under lox on bagel or add Feta Dill Dip to a frittata.

 Feta Dill Dip Garnish

  • 1 T olive oil
  • 2 – 3 T dill, roughly chopped
  • 2 – 3 T parsley, roughly chopped
  • 1/4 t red pepper flakes

Dip #2: Honey Yogurt Dip

  • 1 c Labneh, or full fat Greek yogurt
  • 1 – 2 T honey (Attiki Greek liquid honey used here)
  • 2 t Yogurt Seasoning (from Akhavan: mint, garlic, pepper, rose petals, salt)
  • 1 Granny Smith apple
  • 2 T pomegranate seeds, as garnish (optional)
  • fresh mint, as garnish (optional)

Spread Labneh in a shallow dish. Drizzle on honey. Sprinkle on Yogurt Seasoning. Serve with bright green Granny Smith apple slices. Add more honey and Yogurt Seasoning to taste as you notice the topping disappear. For some extra sparkle, garnish with pomegranate seeds and a sprig of mint. Serves 6.

Final notes:

  • I called Akhavan to ask for the ingredients in their Yogurt Seasoning, and they listed mint, garlic, pepper and salt.  I can see some rose petals, however, so I’m adding them to the list.
  • Akhavan said their Yogurt Seasoning is an Iranian blend, so I called Marché Arborz to quiz them on ingredients. They suggested dried mint and either garlic powder or wild garlic powder. So if you’re not able to purchase Yogurt Seasoning through Akhavan, there’s the “recipe.”

    Hi Holly,
I am so excited to make these dips. I saw that movie last week(on Netflix). It was so sad and disturbing.

    Hi Holly
These dips look so delicious and appealing to all the senses! I will be trying both of them this weekend.
I watched the movie and it hasn’t left me. So disturbing. And yes: a cult!
