El Rey Del Taco – Authentic Mexican Cuisine

October 19, 2014 By Jittery Cook 6 Comments

El Ray Del Taco - Authentic Mexican Cuisine

I can already smell the fragrant red purées, soups and sauces. That’s only natural if you’re at Jean Talon Market on the hunt for bushels of plum tomatoes and red bell peppers.

As we lurched towards the car overloaded with produce, our stomachs growling, we stumbled on El Rey Del Taco and its authentic Mexican cuisine.

Three salsas of varying heat levels, colourful taco chips, lamb and fish tacos quickly graced our table. Food tasted great, especially with salsas sprinkled on, and chef Javier Muñoz welcomed us to his open kitchen.

Did I mention that the waiters were all super congenial and efficient and there’s a terrace overlooking the market and a good-sized party room? Next time you’re in Jean Talon Market, take your eyes off the produce for a moment and sit down for a meal that puts you in sunny Mexico.

A sea of red

Wrinkled and ready

A field of tomatoes

6 pounds of roasted peppers - a personal record

Final note:

  • Santropol Roulant is hosting their annual fundraising gala Thursday, October 23, 6:30pm at Espace réunion, 6600 Hutchison. Maybe you want to help them feed the needy by purchasing a ticket? The Harvest Gala will feature the best local produce from three urban gardens. Seasonal vegetables, local meats and cheeses will be presented at food stations by farmers and chefs. Barefoot will serve wine; The Winston Band, the Jazz Street Boyz  and Cat’s Corner swing dancers will entertain you. If you can’t make it you can still make a donation to Santropol Roulant and its Meals on Wheels.

To me Mexican food is a basic need! There is something very satisfying about the combinations of flavors that make up the amazing food at El Ray Del Taco.
